The U.S. and the Philippines have reached a trade pact, President Trump said Tuesday. He said on Truth Social that the U.S. will charge Philippine imports a 19% tariff under the deal.

In return, Trump said that U.S. exports to the Philippines will receive “Zero Tariffs” and that the two nations would cooperate militarily.

The post came shortly after a White House meeting between Trump and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., before which Trump had said they were close to a deal. Trump threatened 20% in a recent letter to Marcos but also proposed 17% during his April 2 “Liberation Day” tariff announcement.

The U.S. posted a $4.9 billion deficit in trade goods for 2024 with the Philippines, which ranked 33rd in U.S. total goods trade for the year. The White House released no more details about the deal. (WSJ)
